Approach to Counseling

What is counseling with me like?

I approach you with non-judgment and acceptance for where you are at in your life.  I learn about you and what you have experienced. From this place of empathy and understanding, I will guide you in finding your strength and courage, while helping you develop skills to be able to handle life's ups and down with a greater sense of peace.  We work together to develop your sense of self and self compassion.

I place a strong focus on relationships and our attachments with one another. I also focus on the mind and helping you gain awareness of your thoughts, and their impact on your feelings and actions.

I do this through an integrative approach to counseling. What does that mean? I utilize therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, as well as Mindfulness-based Interventions; Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; while being greatly influenced by Interpersonal Neurobiology and Attachment Theory.  I also like to utilize creative art techniques in our time together, as it can be beneficial for emotional expression and one's development of self awareness.
